Siran and Around

The terrace of the apartment overlooks a large outside area used for village festivals. Everyone staying in the village has access to the village tennis courts (just a few metres away and again, overlooked by the terrace) and the key can be obtained from the village bar. Places worth visiting close to Siran include the Chapelle de Centeilles, the Curiosité de Lauriole and the Dolmen des Fades. La Liviniere and Pépieux are both a pleasant walk away down quiet country lanes.

Lac de Jouarres

A 5 minute drive form Siran, the lake has a beach with swimming facilities as well as a sailing and windsurfing school, life guard in season, snack bar, restaurant and picnic area.

Olonzac

A 10 minute drive away, Olonzac has a wide range of shops, restaurants and banks including 2 ATMs.

Homps and the Canal du Midi

Homps is a picturesque village on the banks of the canal. You can rent a boat or take a trip on a barge here. It is also a great place for a stroll or cycle along the tree-lined banks in either direction - towards the l'ecluse de Jouarres to the west or l'ecluse de l'Oignon to the east.  Other villages along the canal which are pleasant to stroll around include Argens, Roubia, Paraza and Ventenac.

Minerve

The Cathar village of Minerve (20 mins drive from Siran), dating back as far as the 12th century, offers breathtaking views. The village is perched high above a canyon on top of the gorge carved by the River Cesse.

Caunes Minervois

Also 20 mins drive from Siran, Caunes has a famous abbey and interesting medieval streets to wander around.  there are also some excellent signposted walks in the surrounding hills.

Lézignan-Corbières

Lézignan is the nearest big town with large supermarkets and lots of shops.  it has a busy weekly market every Wednesday morning.
