Restaurants

In Siran, the village bar (Le Minervois) is open every day, serves basic food, and is fine for everyday eating. On Friday evenings there is often live music and reservations are advised in summer. There is also an excellent restaurant on the edge of the village (L'Oustal de Carquet) which is open in the summer months only.  Pizza vans call in the village on Thursday and Sunday.

La Livinière has an excellent restaurant (Les Meulieres) which is open all year round and also a bar/ brasserie (Le Figuier) with somewhat unpredictable opening hours.

Other recommended restaurants in the area include:

  • Au Bonne CompagnieLa Péniche and Bistrot Gourmand in Homps
  • L'Auberge de St Martin in Beaufort
  • La Guinguette in Argens
  • L'Ô a la Bouche and Le Comptoir Nature in Le Somail

Food Shopping

The grocery shop in the village is open from 9.00-12.30 Monday to Saturday and 16.00-19.00/19.30 Tuesday to Saturday.

The boulangerie is open every morning from 9.00 am until 12ish except Wednesday when the grocery shop stocks bread/croissant instead.  The boulangerie is also open in an evening Monday to Saturday but not sure of the times!

The nearest supermarket (G20) is in Olonzac and opens all day Monday to Saturday and also on Sunday morning. There is also a Spar Supermarket in Rieux Minervois and an Intermarché in La Redorte.

The Utile supermarket - adjoining the petrol station on the main road running past Homps - is open every day until about 20.00 - even on a Sunday.

The weekly market in Olonzac on Tuesdays is also good for food shopping.

Wine

The village shop stocks wine from many producers in Siran.  Most of the vignerons in the village also sell wine direct from their property, you'll see the signs as you're walking around.  La Livinière also has plenty of independent producers as well as a large cave  which sells wines from the Celliers Jean d'Alibert which is majority owned by the  Union des Producteurs du Haut Minervois an association of caves cooperatives.  Local vineyards worth visiting include Clos Centeilles and Château de Gourgazaud.

A good place to stock on wine and other produce from the wider region is the CDD store in Lézignan-Corbières.

As well as sampling the reds of Minervois, Corbières, St Chinian, La Clape, etc. remember to try the local rosé and white wines from the region such as Picpoul de Pinet.
